About C2
C2's European Tinting System

C2's top priority is to give consumers the best value for your money.  C2 paints are made using the highest load of titanium dioxide for luminosity and durability. A sophisticated European tinting system is used - one containing more colorants and finer artist-grade pigments than any other system used in North America.

With colorants high in strength, saturation and opacity, C2 paints deliver the best hiding power in the industry.

This means:
  • Less paint, and less painting labor, to achieve deep tones.
  • Exceptional light-fast and fade-resistant qualities, allowing the paint to look better longer.
  • Harder finishes and scrub resistance thanks to highly refined compounds

The Coatings Alliance hired Jill Torrance of the Color Marketing Group* to develop its color palette.

In December 2000, the C2 collection was launched with an original color palette of 496 distinct colors, available in interior and exterior paints, as well as oils and latex.

C2 updates its color palette on a two-year basis, as compared to the 10 to 15 year schedule common amonst major brands.

Since its founding, The Coatings Alliance has grown to represent over 60 reputable paint retailers with a total of 61 storefronts in the US and Canada.

* Founded in 1962, CMG is a not-for-profit, international Association of 1,700 Color Designers. The group provides a forum for the exchange of non-competitive information on all phases of color marketing: color trends and combinations, design influences, merchandising and sales, and education and industry contacts.

"The Sweetest
Paint There Is"

That's how custom cabinetmaker and Teschner's customer, Rick Perry, recently described C2 paint.

Why? Because C2 paint goes on like a dream. For all but the deepest shades, two coats create a perfect finish. Your finished color matches the paint chip exactly, because C2 paint chips are actually painted -- not printed with ink like all other paint manufacturers.

You get reliable color that lasts, eliminating the cost of another paint job again too soon, and invisible touch-up, even years later.

Best of all is the finished effect: luminous color that transforms a room into a mood and a feeling.

C2 paints create complex hues that change under different lighting conditions, colors imbued with subtle undertones that change in daylight, shadow and evening lighting.

Teschner's is proud to be one of 61 independent businesses across North America to sell this exceptional paint. In our experience, most customers who try C2 never settle for less again.

History

C2 (The Coatings Alliance) was founded in 1998 to create a new collection of ultra-premium paints that combined the winning attributes of the major brands into a single line.

For years prior, supplies of superior paint products had been compromised by an alarming trend: rapid consolidation of paint manufacturers and suppliers. More and more, customer choice was dwindling down to a few major manufacturers.

After a major brand bought out a smaller one, it would change the paint formula to economize. Since the brand name might not change, customers would be left to discover negative changes in coverage, durability and application only after they had opened the can and started a project.

Independent retailers like Teschner's were hearing mounting complaints from consumers.

When Greg Stebbe, owner of Walls Alive in Calgary, Alberta, lost yet another paint supplier to consolidation, he contacted Tom Hill, industry expert and former chief chemist for Pratt & Lambert.

"I called Tom to see if he knew of another good supplier. When he asked if I had ever thought of making my own paint, I first thought he was crazy. But then it got me thinking that it might be possible," said Stebbe.

Over the next months, Stebbe and Hill met with other retailers to consider the launch of a new line of premium paints. In October 1998, they established The Coatings Alliance.

The Coatings Alliance comprised a winning combination, Hill's wealth of coatings industry experience - from formulations to distribution to manufacturing - and the retailers' front line contact with designers, contractors and other customers.

Based on market research, an understanding of the industry and the capabilities of the retailers, they created a unique business model and plan that made retailers into members of the company with a significant role in determining the direction for the new paint, C2 Collections of Color.
